May looked backward and forward at the same time: Parker honored our history, while member recognition put today’s volunteers in the spotlight.
We introduced Parker, our Legacy Elk, named in honor of Boyd R. Parker, the first Exalted Ruler of Scottsdale Elks Lodge #2148. Parker is a reminder that everything we enjoy today was built by members who volunteered, led, solved problems and believed the Lodge was worth their effort.
At Queen of Hearts, we recognized Don Hewitt as Elk of the Month, Eric Goodwin as Officer of the Month and Lynn Youngs, P.E.R., as Volunteer of the Month.
A lot of Lodge work is almost invisible: setup, cleanup, phone calls, errands and the person who notices a job and simply does it.
May also kept our community work moving through Beat the Heat, Mother’s Day, Whiskey and Cigar Night and our Memorial Day observance.
Parker reminds us where #2148 came from. May’s honorees remind us who keeps it going now.
