June had a little bit of everything that makes an Elks Lodge feel like an Elks Lodge: Flag Day, service projects and plenty of reasons to be together.
Our Flag Day Ceremony continued one of the proudest traditions in Elkdom. This year, the observance also coincided with the United States Army’s 251st birthday, giving us another reason to recognize service and sacrifice.
The Father’s Day Burger Bar benefited the AEMP Jack C. Warter Jr. Youth Camp. Our Ice Cream Social and Toy Drive supported the AEMP Steele Children’s Research Center, while the Veterans Committee organized a Deployment Care Package Drive for the 161st Air Refueling Wing.
Arizona summer is a perfectly reasonable excuse to hide indoors. #2148 did not take it.
A calendar entry is the easy part. Members did the cooking, setup, serving, cleanup, donating and inviting.
Flag Day matters because we keep doing it — and because members keep showing up to carry the tradition.
